About Us

Hello.

My name is Derek Lockhart. Some of you may remember me from my garage & petrol stations on Burnside, or more recently Low Road where the CO-OP now stands. You may remember me from my mini-bus/taxi days, taking kids to school, party goers on nights out or middle of the night runs to the airports. After all these busy years I decided it was time to slow things down a little, taking up my current building on Station Road, in the yard behind Scotch Whisky/Swan Engineering.

My garage has always been family run since I took over from my Dad (Roy Lockhart), and today it stands no different with my daughter Cassie working alongside me keeping all my admin in order and putting my crazy ideas into motion. Yes you did see right - we are beginning to produce our own merch, specialising in Dad Joke/Car Puns.

As a team of 2 we are kept quite busy, fulfilling all manners of vehicle repairs which I now have extensive years of experience doing. Services, MOTs, Tyres, Clutches, Timing Belts, Air Conditioning are just a few jobs that keep me busy day to day. I do however like a wee unusual challenge so feel free to bring me along that undiagnosed problem and I'll see what I can do! As much as I try to teach Cassie the trade & get her under a car with her overalls on - I might have to start working on teaching the grandchildren to take over as I don't think Cassie is feeling the life as a Car DR haha.

 

The Car DR name originated from a play on my initials, Derek Robert Lockhart, and after I made comment about being a Car Doctor my Sister-In-Law gifted me a stethoscope and so the Car DR was born.

In my spare time you will find me playing the accordion which I have self-taught myself with the back up teaching of my son who is now living in Buglaria. I do like going for a run, doing some DIY or hiking up a hill/Munro - more so in the winter. I love a good travelling trip with my wife Lorna, we're slowly ticking off the bucket list countries - travelling in a relaxed style with campervans!
